Plan Your Trip Around Greater Western Sydney's Top Festivals/Events

Whatever time of year you choose to come and stay with us at the Novotel Sydney Norwest, there’s a good chance that your visit will coincide with some of the great events and happenings in Sydney. Here are just a few ideas for what to do in Sydney, from arts festivals to community fun days

1. Sydney Festival

One of the most popular and long-running big events in Sydney is the annual Sydney Festival. Started over 41 years ago, this three-week cultural extravaganza offers theatre, dance, music, art and circus from more than 1,000 performers in 45 venues. 2. New Year’s Eve Party in Sydney
If you’re in the city on December 31st, you’ll be lucky enough to catch the Sydney New Year celebrations, one of the big events in Sydney, and indeed the world. Welcome the New Year in the most memorable way possible, with a view of the dazzling light display on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and not one, but two magnificent fireworks displays, one at 9:00 pm and another one at midnight. The choreographed musical fireworks makes this one of the unmissable annual events in Sydney.


3. St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival
If you’re in the city in early February, head to one of the biggest music festivals in Sydney, the St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival. The festival has an inspired selection of both new and revered music, with a great line-up of local and international musicians. One of the most exciting annual events in Sydney, Laneway takes place in the beautiful surroundings of the Sydney College of the Arts in Rozelle. 


4. Vivid Festival
The annual Vivid Festival brings light, music and ideas to Sydney in a series of unique events that take place all over the city. This unique art exhibition runs from 26 May to 17 June in 2017. Millions visit over 65 lighting installations that can be explored along the outdoor gallery of the Vivid Light Walk, and see the city transformed with an amazing array of illuminated artworks and projections. 

5. Oztoberfest
There's no need to travel to Munich for the Oktoberfest celebration of beer and all things German - Sydney has its very own Oztoberfest which takes place on October 7th 2017. Head to Penrith for beer, barbecue and loads of German-themed entertainment.


6. NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final
One of the biggest annual sports happenings in Sydney is the Grand Final of the NRL Telstra Premiership. This takes place in September at Sydney's Stadium Australia, and includes a full program of entertainment as well as top-class rugby.


7. Arsenal FC
If you're a football fan and in town in July, don't miss the chance to see Arsenal play at the ANZ Stadium. The Gunners will be taking on Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers in two unmissable games of football.


8. Orange Blossom Festival
One of the most fun festivals in Sydney is a real local favourite that takes place only a few minutes away from the hotel. The annual Orange Blossom Festival is held at the Castle Hill Showground in Sydney Hills. Entry is completely free to this relaxed and friendly family day out. On offer is live entertainment, food stalls and a parade, while the day ends with a spectacular fireworks display.
